What is Serotonin? Serotonin is a neurotransmitter in which maintains a stable mood if there are normal quantities
How does it affect aggression? Low levels of serotonin = Increased chance of aggression
Describe supporting research for the Serotonin theory (Lindberg) Lindburg compared serotonin levels within 16 males who committed violent crimes), 22 males who attempted suicide and 39 healthy males. He measure the by-product of serotonin production (5-HIAA) and found those with lowest levels committed violent crimes or attempted suicide
What is the Limbic System? A collection of structures in the centre of the brain. One of its functions is to process emotional responses.
How does it link to aggression? Destruction of one area of the limbic system can affect emotional responses
Describe Brad and Mountcastle's study They took a part specific parts within the limbic system of a cat. The removal of a hypothalamus showed savage behaviour within the cat. However, the removal of the amygdala (Amy-got-dolla) caused tameness within cats.
What is Testosterone Testosterone is a hormone, commonly found more in males in which seems to control levels of aggression
What is the relationship between Testosterone and Aggression? Higher levels of testosterone causes higher levels of aggression
