When calcium oxide reacts with water what does it produce? Calcium hydroxide
What is calcium hydroxide and what can it be used for? It is an alkali and can be used in the neutralisation of acids
Why is limewater (a solution of calcium hydroxide in water) used to test for carbon dioxide? Because it reacts with the carbon dioxide to produce calcium carbonate and turns the water cloudy.
Why is limestone damaged by acid rain? What is produced? Because carbonates react with acids. Carbon dioxide, a salt and water is produced.
How is cement made? Limestone is heated with clay
How is mortar and concrete made? Mortar: Cement is mixed with sand Concrete: Cement is mixed with sand and aggregate
