How does wave power work? Waves move against a vertical wall which causes air to be forced out. This then turns the turbine, turning the generator, thus providing electricity
Give two positive impacts of wave power 1) There is no pollution 2) There are no fuel costs and minimal running costs
Give Give four negatives of wave power? 1) They can spoil view 2) They can be a hazard to boats 3) Initial costs are high 4) They are unreliable
What do tidal barrages use to produce energy? Gravity from the sun and the moon
How do tidal barrage dams work? AS the tide comes in it fills up the estuary to a height of several meters- it also drives the turbines. This water is then allowed out thru the turbines at a controlled speed
Give three positives of Tidal Barrages. 1) No pollution 2) Tides are reliable 3) They can store energy well
Give four negatives of using tidal barrages. 1) Prevents free access for boats 2) Spoils the view 3) Alters habitats 4) Initial costs are high
