Pregunta Respuesta
What does DNA stand for? Deoxyribonucleic Acid
What is DNA? DNA, or Deoxyribonucleic Acid, is the heredity material in humans and almost all organisms.
What four bases are found in DNA? . Adenine . Thymine . Guanine . Cytosine
what is the Watson-Crick model? Watson-Crick Structure of DNA. Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) is a double-stranded, helical molecule. It consists of two sugar-phosphate backbones on the outside, held together by hydrogen bonds between pairs of nitrogenous bases on the inside.
How many parts do Nucleotide molecules have? they have three parts which are - - Phosphate group - Deoxyribose sugar - One of the four nitrogen-rich bases
What are chromosomes ? a thread-like structure of nucleic acids and protein found in the nucleus of most living cells, carrying genetic information in the form of genes.
what do chromosomes consist of? Chromosomes are made up of DNA and protein. The proteins are histones, and the DNA is wrapped around the histones.
How many chromosomes are in your body cells ? In humans, each cell normally contains 23 pairs of chromosomes, for a total of 46.
What are Gametes? Gametes are Eggs and sperm
What chromosome determines whether you are a female or male ? In Females the sex chromosome is XX In Males the sex chromosome is XY
What are Autosomes? Any chromosome that is not a sex chromosome.
What are Homologous Chromosomes? One chromosome of each homologous pair comes from the mother (called a maternal chromosome) and one comes from the father (paternal chromsosome)
Where is the DNA found in Plants? In plants the DNA is found in the Chlorplasts.
What are Genes? a unit of heredity which is transferred from a parent to offspring and is held to determine some characteristic of the offspring.
Where is DNA found in an organism? In organisms called eukaryotes, DNA is found inside a special area of the cell called the nucleus.
What is the difference between one gene and the other? - Order of bases along the DNA strand - Number of bases in that section of DNA
list the proteins that our cells need to survive and function well? - structural, such as collagen found in tendons and ligaments and keratin found in skin, hair, nails. - Regulatory, such as growth hormone which stimulates growth and cell reproduction
