Local Area Network (LAN)	A network which all nodes are located in a small geographical radius from the main server.
Wide Area Network (WAN)	A network which all nodes are located in a large geographical radius from the main server.
Data Packets	A file which is split into many different pieces which is sent across a network. Stores data. It is reassembled at the other end.
Hub	A central area where all nodes connect to, eg, a modem or server.
Peer to Peer Network	All users are equal and files and peripherals can be shared.
Star Topology	Most common type of server, all nodes connect to one main hub.
Ring Topology	A server topology where all computers (nodes) are linked in a ring.
MAC Addressing	(Media Access Control) Each node has a unique MAC Address which it uses to connect to a hub. This is its identity. It can be used to limit what each device can do as its MAC Address stays the same.
