Bacteria are prokaryotes No membrane-bound nucleus. DNA is free in the cytoplasm. Circular chromosome in the centre that holds all the genes needed for the bacterium.
Extra circles in DNA is called Plasmids These plasmids contain additional genes, such as for antibiotic resistance.
Animals, plants and fungi are eukaryotes. Membrane-bound nucleus. Chromosomes are linear rather than circular. The DNA found in the linear chromosomes is tightly coiled around special proteins
