What are the Jarls? Jarls were the most influential and powerful viking noblemen, They were wealthy as, wore intricate clothes and jewelry and lived in large longhouses
Who were the Karls? How did they fit into the Viking society Karls were then farmers and merchants such as silversmiths, boat builders, merchants. Many of these people were raiders but when they were not raiding they were farmers.
Who were the Thralls? How did they fit into the Viking society They were slaves or prisoners of war. They did the majority or the labor in the society. The had no rights under the law but most were treated well
What is a "Konungr" A "Konungr" was a the viking lead of a certain tribe.
What was a woman's main role in the viking society? Women main role was to look after and take care of the childeren and somtimes manage the house when her husband was out raiding. As a result to this, women in Viking time women were very independent and self-reliant.
Who is an Olaf Viking warriors who would venture out on longboats to raid, and then come back to continue harvesting their crops or selling goods.
Who is a Skardi? Skardi was a term for and Olaf who was not out raiding, he was usually a farmer or a merchant.
Who is a Hrodgeir? Hrodgeirs are also Olafs when they are not fighting, the are merchants and will sell gods to make a living
Who is a Gudrun The Gudrun is the wife of an Olaf, she i independant and takes care of the children. She can sew and weave cloth and felt to make garments and other things.
Where did Vikings live? Vikings lived in structures called long house, they were usually next to water and were generally dark and smelly as they lived in the with their animals and bodily fluids in the winter as it was too cold for the animals to stay outside and too cold to go to the toilet outside of the long house
How was the viking political system structured? The Vikings held and annual political assembly call a "thing." The viking respected the law as pride was highky regarded in viking times. Disobeying the "thing" resulted in a fine, not paying that fine meant that you were an full outlaw or killed
How was the viking economy structured? In the Scandinavian winter the Vikings had very harsh times, food was scarce forcing then to eat everything and anything. Viking merchants through-out the year piled their trade boats ac cross the sea and down rivers. Coins have confirmed that Vikings traded as far as Asian and Russia. This meant that although they raided Vikings were very civil people, they had taxes, traded and laws.
Who was the Viking god Odin? The king of gods in viking mythology, he was the god of magic, poetry and war. His wife Frigg was the goddess of women and the home
Who was the Viking god Freya? Freya was the goddess of beauty and love. She rode a chariot drawn by two cats.
Who was the Viking god Freyr? God of Fertility, peace and harvest. He is the twin brother of Freya.
Who was the Viking god Thor? Thor is the god of thunder. The Vikings believed that he rode a chariot across the skies creating the sound of thunder. Thor cause lightning with his magic hammer.
