      1. The first BBSs came "online services" in late 70s.
        1. BBSs were the first type of sites that allowed user to log on and interact with another. Originally there were primarily hosted on personal computers and users had to dial in through the host computer´s modem.
      2. Usernets
        1. Tom Truscott and Jill first conceived of Usernet in 1979.
          1. Usernets are mostly responsible fot the development of newsreader clients, which are the precursor to RSS feed readers so commonly used to follow blogs and news sites today.

            1. Started in 1999.
              1. It was a social network built around constantly-updated blogs.

              1. Online forums also played a large part in the evolution of the social web, remain a popular part of the online culture, and many have made strides to add more social networking- type features.

                                1. Is another social network, users can set their profiles to be seen only by their network members or by hi5 users in general.

                                1. Was faunded in 2003.
                                  1. It was one of the first mainstream social networks devoted to business. Originally, Linkedl allowed users to post a profile and interact through private messaging.
                                2. Myspace
                                  1. Was faunded in 2003.
                                    1. Was had grown to be the most popular social network in the world. Originally Myspace allowed communication throught private messages, public comments posted to user's profile and bulletins sent out to all of your friends
                                  2. Facebook
                                    1. Started out as Harvad-only social networkback in 2004.
                                      1. Facebook allow users to post photos, videos and otherwise customize their profile content. Users have a few different methods of communicating with another, etc.
                                  3. Multiply
                                    1. Was established in 2004.
                                      1. Is a "family-friendly"social network and media sharing site . The users have the option to set security levels on each item they post, making things public, network-only, or invite- only.
                                    2. Orkut
                                      1. Launched in January 2004.
                                        1. Orkut lets users share media, status updates, and communicate throug IM.
                                      2. Kontain
                                        1. Launched in 2008.
                                          1. Kontain works a bit differently than many social networks, putting the focus on usability and allowing users to follow each other through photos, videos, and music, rather than just simple status updates.
                                      3. Ning
                                        1. Ning is a plataform for creating niche social networks. Networks are hosted by Ning but can take on their own personality and can even pay to have their own btanding instead of the Ning brand.

                                          1. Delicius
                                            1. Founded in 2003.
                                              1. It's a social bookmarking, it allows its users to bookmark any content they find online, tag that content, and then share it with other users.
                                            2. Digg
                                              1. Was faunded in 2004 by K. R;R.G;J.A;O.B.
                                                1. Digg users can share links to anything online and other users can vote that content up ("dig) or down ("bury"). Users can also comment on content posted by others and keep a friends list.
                                              2. Reddit
                                                1. Founded in 2005.
                                                  1. Reddis operates in a similar fashion to Digg, allowing users to vote content up or down. Users can view popular items, new items, and "controversial" items.
                                              3. Authonomy is one example; it's a writers network hosted by the UK division of Harper Collins that has attracted thousands of hopeful writers from all over the globe.

                                                    1. Launched in 2003.
                                                      1. It was the first major photo sharing site, photobucket allows users to share photos publicly or in password-protected album.

                                                      1. June 2009.
                                                        1. Flickr has become a social network in its own right in recent years, becouse also has groups, photo pools, and allows users to create profiles, add friends, and organize images and video into photo sets/albums.
                                                      2. Youtube
                                                        1. Launched in 2005.
                                                          1. It was the first major video hosting and sharing site. YouTube's major social features include ratings, comments, and the option to subscribe to the channels of user's favorite video creators.
                                                        2. Revver
                                                          1. Revver took a slightly different approach to video hosting and sharing, it has been sharing revenue from the start. It splits the revenue generated by video 50/50 with that video creator.

                                                              1. Started by Y Combinator in May 2009.
                                                                1. Is the newest major microblogging application, users post content via email. Emails cain include attached photos, MP3s and other types that are also posted.

                                                                1. Was founded in 2007.
                                                                  1. It is sort of a cross between a life streaming application and a micro blogging platform. The site lets users post photos, video, text, audio, links, conversations, and other content on blog-like sites.
                                                              3. Ustream. tv
                                                                1. Was founded in 2006.
                                                                  1. It was had become the streaming video host of choise for celebrities.
                                                                2. Justin. tv
                                                                  1. Octuber 2006.
                                                                    1. It is streaming video that lets life casters and live show creator to broadcast to hundreds or thousands of internet users.
                                                                  2. Friedfeed
                                                                    1. Launched in 2007.
                                                                      1. It´s a place in you allows you to integrate most of your activities, also a social network in its own right, with the ability to create friend list, post updates, and otherwise communicate.
