  1. Carrying capacity; the maximum number of organisms a particular enviroment can support during the harshest part of the year without damage to that enviroment
    1. Survival curves; keep track of the fate of any given birth cohort
      1. Type 1; applies to species that have a high survival rate of the young, live out most of their expected lifespan, and die in old age
        1. Type 2; applies to species that have a relatively constant death rate throughout theor lifespan. Death is often from predatation or diesease
          1. Type 3; is found in species that have many young, most of which die very early in their life
