3. Cabling to connect each network computer and printer to the file server

1. User interface on standalone will differ from a machine on a network
2. Security will enforce user to log onto network before they can use machine

3. Restricted GUI centrally controlled to stop personalisation

Security

  1. Greater security than on standalone machines
2. An infection spreads quicker
3. Viruses
  1. Transferred to systems via storage devices infected by another computer
  2. Access to public networks such as internet pose threat as downloaded files may have viruses
4. Antivirus
  1. Prevent infection
  2. Expensive and requires updates with new virus definitions
5. Hardware Failure
  1. Rick of data loss
  2. Regular Back Ups required
Control of Software
1. Network Manager has responsibility for software installed
  1. Must only be used in accordance to license
2. Control Of Files
  1. Users can normally only access their own files
  2. Allow users to share files
  3. May be restricted in activities
3. Access Rights
  1. Allocating maximum disc space allowance
  2. Specify use of software
  3. Restrict access times
  4. Assign access levels and access to folders/ drives
