Motherboard
1. It is the computers main circuit board
2. It is a thin plate that holds the CPU , memory, connectors for the hard drive and optical drives, expansion cards that control the videos and audios, and connections to the computers ports
3. It connects directly or indirectly to every part of the computer
CPU / processor
1. Is located in the computer case on the motherboard
2. Its job is to carry out commands. whenever you press a key, click the mouse or start an application you are sending instructions to the CPU.
RAM (random access memory)
1. Is the systems short-term memory
2. it temporarily stores the data until it is needed. it will then disappear when the computer is turned off
Hard Drive
1. Is where your software, documents, and other files are stored
2. the hard drive is the long-term storage , this means the data is saved even if the computer is switched off or unplugged
3. when you run a program or open a file, the computer copies some of the data from the hard drive onto the RAM but if the document is saved the data is copied back onto the hard drive
Power supply unit
1. it converts the power from the wall outlet to the type of power needed by the computer
2. It sends power through the cables to the motherboard and other components
Expansion slots
1. they are on the motherboard and allow you to add various types of expansion cards
Heat sink
1. is an object that covers the CPU and absorbs heat away from it
