   Nota:

   1. could

      Nota:

      • - Fähigkeit / Erlaubnis aus der Vergangenheit - etwas höflicher als can Could you wait a moment, please? I could lend you my car till tomorrow. Besonderheit im if-Satz Typ 2: - can und may bilden das conditional nicht mit would - can wird zu could und may zu might If i were not afraid of water, I could go snorkeling.
      1. Ersatzformen

         Nota:

   Nota:

   • - Erlaubnis oder Möglichkeit, etwas in der Gegenwart zu tun. (Ersatzform: to be allowed to) - höfliches Angebot- Klingt sehr formell und ist noch höflicher als could. May I help you? It may rain today.

      Nota:

      • - Möglichkeit (weniger wahrscheinlich als may) - zögerliches Angebot Besonderheit im if-Satz Typ 2: - can und may bilden das conditional nicht mit would - can wird zu could und may zu might If Jim were richer, he might think about a bigger house.
   2. must not / may not

      Nota:

      • - Verbot - must = stärkeres Verbot  You mustn't work on dad's computer. You may not work on dad's computer.
3. must

   Nota:

   • Notwendigkeit / zwingende Empfehlung / hohe Wahrscheinlichkeit I must go to the supermarket today. You must be tired.
   2. need not

      Nota:

      Nota:

      • - Ratschlag oder Verpflichtung - klingt strenger als should You should drive carefully in bad weather. You should switch off the light when you leave the room.
   2. shall

      Nota:

      • - Frage / um Rat bitten / Vorschlag - Voraussage für die Zukunft Shall I carry your bag?It shall be a wonderful wedding.
5. will

   Nota:

   • - Wunsch / Aufforderung  - Vermutung / Vorhersage - Versprechen - spontaner Entschluss Will you please shut the door? Can somebody drive me to the station? – I will.
   1. would

      Nota:
