Y2 - Week 1
  1. Friday
    1. 15' - Circle Time/Mystery Message
      1. 15' (Math): Create an anchor chart about possible attributes (shapes, color, number, size, position, etc.)
        1. 1h - ELA: Word wall: review, record, meaning, examples, order. (community, belong, different, respect and name stamps)
          1. 30'min: In centers kids will review and finish Math pages from 15 - 17)
          2. Monday
            1. 15' - Circle Time: Welcome/Hangman (Community)
              1. 30' (ELA): Introduce the "Name Jar" (object)
                1. Ask students to write their names on paper and put them in the jar.
                  1. Read the message on the board and discuss: "Welcome to Grade 2. We are going to have an exciting year together! What can we do to make our classroom a good place to be?"
                    1. Group Work: Create a "Y Chart" about Y2's class community (Feels like/Sounds like/Looks like)
                2. 45' (Math): Introduce new book. Show kids when and how to use.
                  1. Whole Group: Unit 1 pages 13-14
                  2. Extra Class
                    1. 15' (ELA): Read aloud "The Name Jar"
                    2. Tuesday
                      1. 15' - Circle Time/Mystery Message
                        1. 45' (Math): Game: teacher will choose objects from the classroom and kids have to decide how to sort the items into groups. Then, in groups kids create their own sorting rule to show their frineds.
                          1. 45' (ELA): Google Class - P.W. Name Research (What does my name mean? What language is it? Was I named after anyone special?)
                            1. 30' (Math): Group Work: MB page 15
                              1. Kids have to create a sorting rule and color
                            2. Wednesday
                              1. Extra Class
                                1. 20' (Math): Whole group MB page 16 (introduce pattern and attribute definition)
                                  1. Identify and label the sorting rule
                                  2. 20' (Science): Introduce unit 2 (Animals Grow)
                                    1. Game: "Finding Your Animal Group" - The teacher will whisper 5 different animal sounds for each kid. Then when teacher says "go" the students will make the sound aloud and run to the matching sound.
                                    2. 25' - Circle Time/ Sharing your Name research
                                      1. 25' (ELA): Circle time - Sort a name from the Name Jar. Ask the student what they like about their names. Record the answers in a chart.
                                      2. Thursday
                                        1. 15' - Circle Time/Mystery Message
                                          1. 1h15 - Centers:
                                            1. 1 - (T. Dé) ELA notebook: Ask the students to write 3 sentences about what they've learned using the key words from board and their research. (Name, special, important, different, choose...)
                                              1. 2 - (T. Nat) Science: Shared reading ("The Perfect Pet" book). T.G. pg 11
                                                1. 3 - (T. Dé) ELA: DIY Name Stamp w/ paint and alphabet beads
                                                  1. 4 - Math Notebook: Answer 1)What is a pattern? 2) Give two examples of attributes
                                                  2. 15' (Science): Brainstorming and recording of names of common aminals in their environment (air, water, land).
                                                    1. Introduce the correct terms for baby animals.
                                                    2. 30' (Math): Whole Group - MB page 17 EX. 1/ Independent Seatwork - Ex. 2
                                                      1. make a pattern with 2 changing attributes
                                                    3. I am done 1: Sort 3 names from the name jar and spell them to your friend.
                                                      1. 2: LIst five names with the initial letter of your name
                                                        1. 3: Draw and label 4 animals that you can see in the ZOO.
                                                          1. 4: Introduce yourself to the girl from the book "Name Jar" in a sentence.
                                                            1. 5: Create and colour your own pattern.
