  1. Type of practice
    1. Whole practice
      1. Whole practice because the action can't be broken down into sun routines.
      2. Method of practice
        1. Can use fixed practice as good for beginners is not sport specific but can be boring. Not varied practice as there are not many drills for throwing shuttlecocks.
          1. Can use massed practice as throwing a shuttlecock is a simple skill, however can get boring and tiring
          2. Positive transfer
            1. Javelin
              1. Sideways stance
                1. Grip
                  1. Position of feet
                2. Negative transfer
                  1. Javelin
                    1. Position of the other hand
                      1. Speed of throws are different
                    2. Bilateral transfer
                      1. Javelin can't be used as only one arm is used
                        1. can be used in cricket when fielding, by throwing with both arms
                          1. Can be used in two ways:
                            1. The cognitive aspects of the skill e.g. the thought process of what is required. For example I will have to think about how I will throw the shuttlecock with my left hand: my grip and stance
                              1. Positioning of feet
                                1. How to hold shuttlecock
                                  1. Action from dominant hand to the other
                                    1. Where arm goes/ angle of release (45 degrees)
                                  2. The motor prgramme is transferred e.g. the pattern pf movement that is learned almost automatically for one limb is used subconsciously when the other limb is being used.
                                2. Retroactive transfer
                                  1. Fielding technique
                                  2. Proactive transfer
                                    1. (affects new skill- a skill never been done before)
                                      1. Javelin: grip, stance and action
