Applicant- the name given to the person applying for job
Internal recruitment- recruiting someone who already works for the business to do a different job
External recruitment- recruiting from outside the business
Temporary- for a limited amount of time specified; a month/year
Permanent- until the applicant decides to leave or the job ceases to exist
Internal recruitment: advantages
Cheap to advertise

More likely to have smaller amount of applicants
Can encourage career progression
Internal recruitment: disadvantages
Limited choice of candidates
May cause problems among employees due to the change
Employees may be stuck in their ways
May not generate new ideas
The successful candidate will need to be replaces, needing another recruitment plan
External recruitment: advantages
Higher number of candidates
Candidates may have new ideas
Potential for new skills can be brought into the organisation
External recruitment: disadvantages
Takes longer
Person appointed may not be as good as they appear
More expensive to advertise
Pros of using agency and consultant:
The organisation can concentrate on running the business and not looking for new employees.
Organisation does'nt have to employ a recruitment team
The agency/consultant will have loads of access to different people and screen out those unsuitable
They will not tell competitor organisation that you're recruiting, but your own advertisements will
They can offer specialist support or people for the area needing recruitment
Can offer advice about what is happening in employment area
Cons of using agency and consultant
The organisation must pay the agent and the new employee adding to the cost
The agency/consultant may not find the right job as the agent does'nt work within the organisation
They may not care as much about employing the right person for the job as someone working for the organisation
