Resumen del Recurso
Within-Person Changes in the Structure of Emotion.- study overview
Procedure
Used the same ppts- born in China, living in Canada
They asked ppts what they had been mostly speaking in the 2 hours before study (chinese/english)
it works on the idea that Eastern cultures are more open to contradiction
They also asked ppts about how they were feeling
Findings
They found people who had been speaking English made more disctinction between happy and sad, rarely reported feeling a mixture of both
People who had been speaking Chinese showed less distinction and so had more contradiction
Conclusion
the self can change from moment to moment and our language can change how we view ourselves.
