  1. Narrative Poetry: is poetry that tells a story and is the oldest genre poetry
    1. TYPES OF POETRY
    2. Lyric Poetry: Is a comparatively short, non-narrative poem in which a single speaker presents a state of mind or an emotional state.
      1. Dramatic Poetry: Is any poetry in which one or more characters speak. Is written in verse that is meant to be spoken.
        1. Sonnett: A sonnet usually follows an a-b-a-b-c-d-c-d-e-f-e-f-gg rhyme pattern.
          1. FORMS OF POETRY
          2. Haiku: It is more than a type pf poem; it is a way of looking at a physical world. It consists of 3 llines that are in the following order: 5/7/5 totalling 17.
            1. Tanka: Tanka translates as “short song,". Tanka is a form of unrhymed Japanese poetry, with five sections structured 5/7/5/7/7 totalling 31.
              1. Villanelle: The villanelle is a nineteen-line poem made up of five triplets with a closing quatrain.
                1. Free Verse: A poem that does not follow a consistent meter or rhyme scheme in its structure.
                  1. CHARACTERISTICS OF POETRY
                    1. Simile: The use of like or as to compare one thing to another.
                      1. Hyoerbole: Obvious and intentional exaggeration.
                        1. Metaphor: An implied comparison where one thing is described in terms of another without using the words like or as.
                          1. Rhyme: A patterned repetition of vowel and consonant sounds.
                            1. Personification: A figure of speech in which human characteristics are given to an animal, object, or abstract idea.
