Resumen del Recurso
Homeostasis- themaintenance of a constant internal environment
Body Temperature
Temperature at which enzymes work best
37 C
Too hot
Sweat glands in the skin release more sweat, which evaporates, removing heat energy from the skin
Blood vessels leading to the skin capillaries become wider (dilate) allowing more blood to flow through the skin, and more heat to be lost
Too cold
Muscles contract rapidly (shivering), which needs energy for respiration, some of which releases heat
Blood vessels leading to skin capillaries narrow, letting less blood flow to the skin and conserving body heat
Blood Sugar Level
Provide cells with a constant source of glucose for respiration
It is controlled by the release and storage of glucose, which is in turn controlled by insulin.
Water Content
Controlled to protect the cells to prevent too much water entering or leaving them
Water is lost through the lungs via breathing, the sking by sweating and the body through urine produced int the kidneys
