Innocence & Experience ~ Oppression
  1. London
    1. "In every cry of every Man, In every Infants cry of fear, In every voice: in every ban"
      1. Anaphora of 'every' connotes all encompassing suffering and despair - inescapability
      2. "mind-forg'd manacles"
        1. Alliterative metaphor - lack of freedom of thought and spirituality.
        2. "the Chimney-sweepers cry"
          1. Exploitation of child labour - the dynamic emotive verb cry is very childlike - reminding the age of the chimney sweeps
          2. "How the youthful Harlots curse"
            1. Pre-determiner 'youthful' reminds audiences that children could be forced into prostitution - the noun 'Harlot' suggests someone dirty and unworthy in society, even though many were forced into it.
          3. Infant Sorrow
            1. The Chimney Sweeper
              1. The Echoing Green
