Science of collecting , organizing, analyzing and interpreting data
1. Descriptive
  1. Branch of statistics that involves the organization, summarization, and a display of data
2. Inferential
  1. Branch that involves using a sample to draw conclusions about a population
Data
1. Information coming from observation, counts, measurements or responses (value a variable can assume)
  1. Collection of data values=Data Set Each of the data set is called data value or datum
    1. Types of data sets
      1. Population
        All subjects that are being studied
        A numerical description of it it is called a parameter
      2. Sample
        Is a subset of a population
        A numerical description of it it is called a statistic
        (Sample data must be collected using an appropriate method, if not the data are of not value
2. Types of Data
  1. Qualitative
    1. Consists of attributes, labels, or non numerical entries
  2. Quantitative
    1. Consist of numerical measurements or counts
Variables
1. Characteristics or attributes that can assume different values
  1. Types of Data & Variables are the same
    1. Quantitave
      1. Discrete Variables
        Assume values that can be counted
      2. Continuous variables
        Assume an infinite number of values between any two specific valves (Often use fractions and decimals)
    2. Qualitative
  2. (Variable whose valves are determined by chance are called Random Variables
Data and variables & interrelated
Levels of Measurement
1. Nominal
  1. Qualitative only (No math here)
2. Ratio
  1. Similar to interval (Zero is an inherent zero) A ratio of data is formed so that one data is expressed as multiple of another
3. Ordinal
  1. Qualitative or Quantitative Can be arranged in order or ranked
4. Interval
  1. Can be order and can calculate meaningful differences (Zero represents a position on a scale)
