Semantics
Semantics is a sub discipline of linguistics which focuses on the study of meaning.
It is about studying language in isolation and not language in use.
Looks at meaning in isolation.
It is not so much a practical topic but one that requires thinking rather than doing and does not really require any experiments
Areas of semantic
Symbol and referent, conception of meaning, dennotation, connotation, implication, epistemology.
Pragmatics
Pragmatics studies how people comprehend and produce a communicative act or speech act in a concrete speech situation which is usually a conversation

Areas of pragmatic
Felicity conditions, conversational implicature, politeness, phatic tokens, deixis.
