P2 - Radiation and Life
  1. Ionisation
    1. Only some types of electromagnetic radiation have enough energy to do it
      1. X - rays
        1. Gamma rays
          1. Ultraviolet rays
            1. Ionising ultraviolet rays are what cause sun burn and skin cancer
              1. Cells ionise in cells inside the skin
          2. When electromagnetic radiation has enough energy to remove an electron from a cell or molecule
            1. Changes cell/molecule
            2. Can be dangerous
              1. When ionisation happens happens inside the body, it can damage or kill the cell
                1. When the cell is killed, this is radiation sickness
                  1. Ionisation can cause cells to continuously mutate
                    1. Make copies of themselves over and over, without stopping
                      1. This is cancer
                  2. The longer cells are exposed to the ionising radiation, the more damage can potentially be caused
                2. The electromagnetic spectrum
                  1. Includes seven types of radiation
                    1. Radio
