Culinary Arts An The Science Connection
  1. 8.B.1. Describe and cite evidence that heat can be transferred by conduction, convection and radiation.
    1. Conduction : a pot is heated by the stove which then heats the water inside it. The direct transfer of heat by substances touching.
      1. Thermodynamics
      2. Physics
        1. Recognize and explain that energy can neither be created or destroyed; rather it changes form or is transferred through the action of forces
          1. Newton’s Law of conservation. When cooking we use the same energy in the beginning as in the end product.,
            1. 8.A.2. Laws of Motion
          2. 8.B.1. Transfer of Heat
          3. Environmental Issues
            1. Recognize and explain how human activities can accelerate or magnify many naturally occurring changes.
              1. Human interactions can change the different elements of the Earth such as the land. be We use machines and technology to help cook our food instead of old ways. We use microwaves, electric can openers , blenders, and etc.
                1. Earth Science
                  1. Recognize and explain that fossils found in layers of sedimentary rock provide evidence of changing life forms.
                    1. The fossils found in different levels of rock tells us how the species was back then and how it has became more complex of the years. There’s a lot of diversity in the field such as the population and the different foods and techniques.
                      1. Astronomy
                        1. Recognize and explain the effects of the tilt of the Earth’s axis.
                          1. The earth’s tilt causes seasons .Regular motion can be stirring a mix at a constant rate in the same motion.
                          2. 8.D.3. Effects of Tilt
                        2. 8.B.2. Evidence of Change
                    2. 8.B.1. Environmental Impact
                    3. Biology
                      1. Recognize and describe that evolutionary change in species over time occurs as a result of genetic variation in organisms and environmental changes.
                        1. As environments change so does the ability of the animal to adapt to it. We use more of the animals parts in recipes and foods than back then where we used pieces on the animals and throw the rest away.
                          1. Chemistry
                            1. Provide evidence to support the fact that common substances have the ability to change into new substances.
                              1. Reactants mix together chemically to form new substances. When cooking we use sauces and foods that we can’t get back once we mix them. So the elements change into a new substance
                                1. 8.D.3. Chemical Reactions
                            2. 8.D.1. Change Over Time
