Resumen del Recurso

Protein Domains
  1. larger proteins have regions which are joined by unstructured polypeptide. there is evidence which suggests these regions can exist seprately and they are called domains.
    1. a domain has to be self contained
      1. different partial activities
        1. fatty acid synthase
          1. several polypeptides in bacteria but only one in mammals
        2. Domain Shuffling
          1. evolution by the shuffling of protein domains
            1. domains are sometimes coded by seperate exons.
              1. allows rapid evolution
