Resumen del Recurso

Competitive and Noncompetitive Inhibitors
  1. Competitive Inhibitors
    1. mimic the substrate and compete for the binding to the active site
      1. effectiveness = depends on affinities for that site.
        1. Km is increased in a double reciprocal plot
        2. Noncompetitive Inhibitors
          1. bind at a site other than the active one which means no competition with the substrate
            1. Example: covalent modififcation - the action of aspirin in acylating cyclooxygenase at a serine at the active site
              1. Uncompetitive inhibition
                1. inhibitor binds to the ES complex only
