      1. 2- Set the original aside and write your paraphrase on a note card.
        1. 3- Jot down a few words below your paraphrase to remind you later how to use this material.
          1. 4- Check your rendition with the original to make sure the new version includes all the essential information.

              1. 6- Record the source on your notecard in case of incorporating the material into the paper.
              2. "deliberate or reckless representation of another’s words, thoughts, or ideas as one’s own without attribution in connection with submission of academic work, whether graded or otherwise” (UNC-Chapel Hill Writing Center, 2021, par. 2)

                          1. Make sure your paper has any of these three elements:

                                3. STEP 2
                                  1. Take careful notes about all bibliographic information for your works cited page.
                                    1. Ask yourself the following questions:

                                        1. Why does s/he think these points are important?
                                          1. How has s/he decided to construct the argument?
                                            1. How does the structure of the argument affect the reader’s response to the author’s ideas?

                                              2. Write your notes with the book closed to ensure that you are putting the ideas into your own words.
                                                1. Use quotation marks to distinguish the exact words used by the author from your own words.
