Organisms can survive in their habitats
thanks to specials characteristics that are
called adaptations.
Physical Adaptations
Body structures, like
beaks of birds, are
different, depending on
what they eat.
Body Covering
The way an animal’s
body is covered can
serve as protection
from weather
conditions and
predators.
Camouflage:Hide-and- seek
Animals develop colors and/or
shapes that helps them blend in
with their surroundings. This kind
of adaptation helps them against
predators.
Behavioral Adaptations
Behavior is an action
that living things do to
avoid being attacked or
eaten.
Migrations- Moving Away
Some animals travel
long distances. They
migrate to find
warmer climates, find
food, raise babies or go
back to the place
where they were born
to reproduce.
Functional Adaptations
Some animals produce
substances to defend themselves
against predators.
Hibernation
When it is very
cold, some
animals sleep for
a long time.
Estivation
When it is very hot
and dry, some
animals remain
inactive.
