Christological Titles
  1. Son of God
    1. Highlights authority and divinity
      1. Seen as blasphemous
        1. Jewish kings were viewed as the adopted sons of god
          1. Mentioned at; The baptism, "You are my son", The transfiguration, "This is my Son" and he also personally confirmed it at the Trial
            1. Important as Christians believe Jesus has always existed as part of the Holy Trinity
              1. Widely used today and at crucial times by Mark
                1. Some believe it distances us as its hard to relate too
                2. Son of Man
                  1. Jesus' preferred title
                    1. Reveals his humanity, proves he was like us and likely was used to remind the disciples he was one of them
                      1. Used by Ezekiel to describe himself
                        1. Linked to the role of the suffering servant, frequently used when discussing this, links to book of Daniel
                          1. Used at his trial and during the man with the paralysed man
                            1. "The son of man is lord even on the Sabbath
                              1. Shows he has God's authority and can forgive sins
                                1. Not widely used today, too vague and hard to understand
                                2. Messiah/Son of David / Christ
                                  1. Messiah and Christ means anointed one
                                    1. Expected a Messiah like King David
                                      1. Jesus was not a military of political messiah but a Suffering Servant Messiah
                                        1. Jesus disliked it due to its political connotations- Messianic secret
                                          1. When peter states "you are Christ" he warns them not to tell anyone
                                            1. Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey to symbolise peace
                                              1. Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David
                                            2. Saviour
                                              1. Jesus means Saviour
                                                1. Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins
                                                  1. He saved people from their sicknesses, leper, paralysed hand, Jairus' daughter
                                                    1. Saved his disciple at the calming of the storm reminding them of their faith
                                                      1. He saved people from spiritual and physical hunger at the feeding of the 5000
