  1. Anorexia Nervosa
    1. When a person maintains a starvation diet despite being significantly underweight
      1. Usually an adolescent female
        1. 15% or more underweight
          1. Can be a diet that spins out of control into an obsession for weight loss
            1. slow heart rate, loss of bone density, fatigue, muscle weakness, hair loss, dehydration, extremely low bmi
              1. Binge: Involves episodes of binge eating combined with restriction behavior
                1. Restriction: extremely low-calorite diet & or excessive exercise
                  1. Estimated to be the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric disorder
                  2. Bulimia Nervosa
                    1. When a person alternates binge eating with purging or fasting
                      1. Usually maintain an apparently normal or at least minimally healthy body
                        1. Inflammation to mouth, stomach ulcers, pancreatitis, tooth decay or staining, irrgular heartbeat & irregular bowel movements
                        2. Likes the feeling of control
                          1. Does not realize they are unhealthy, even when signs are shown
                            1. Symptoms are heart attacks, hair loss
                              1. One of the deadliest psychological disorders
                                1. 42% of first to third grade girls want to be thinner
                                  1. 81% of ten year olds are afraid of being "fat"
                                    1. Over half of teenage girls and nearly a third of teenage boys have used troubling weight control methods
                                      1. 20 million women & 10 million men suffer(ed) from eating disorders
                                        1. Binge-Eating
                                          1. Without purging or fasting
                                            1. Significant binge-eating followed by emotional distress, feelings of lack of control, disgust or guilt
                                              1. Sometimes triggered by stress, or need for or lack of control
                                              2. Not a tell-tale sign for childhood sexual abuse
                                                1. Thinks they need to be perfect, have low self-worth, they fall short of expectations or is concerned with others' perceptions
                                                  1. Much more common among white women, often with higher socioeconomic status
                                                    1. Between 10 & 20% of people diagnosed are men
                                                      1. Body Dysmorphic Disorder or BDD
                                                        1. psychological illness that centers on a person's obsession with physical flaws
                                                          1. Linked with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder or OCD which is unwanted repetitive thoughts which become obsessions
                                                            1. Muscle Dysmorphia: obsessed with the idea they aren't muscular enough
                                                            2. May exercise excessively, groom obsessively or get cosmetic procedures
                                                              1. Critical & unsatisfied with appearance, fears of deformity, anxiety, depression, fear of being judges & avoids social interactions
                                                              2. May be from Serotonin & Dopamine
