Resumen del Recurso

structure of nephron
  1. 2 types of nephron
    1. Cotical
      1. 85% mostly within the cortex, peritubular capillaries (network surrounding entire nephron
      2. Juxtanedullary
        1. The juxtamedullary nephron extends deep into the medulla, peritubular capillaries and vasa recta
          1. Capillary network with parallel tube
        2. The nephron is the functional unit of the kidney
          1. It is the region of urine production
            1. The nephron spans both the cortex and the medulla
              1. If the length of the medulla is greater, the urine concentration will also be greater
                1. The nephron consists of the renal corpuscle and the renal tubule
                  1. Corpuscle
                    1. Bowmans capsule and glomerular capillaries
                    2. Renal tubule
                      1. Consists of the proximal convoluted tubule, loop of hence, descending convoluted tubule and the collecting duct
                    3. Basic smallest functional unit of the kidney
