In Act 2, Scene 2, Don John and Borachio plan to deceive everyone. They plan to spoil Claudio
and Hero's wedding, making everyone think that Hero is not a virgin. "DON JOHN
It is so. The Count Claudio shall marry the daughter of Leonato. BORACHIO Yea,
my lord, but I can cross it"
In Act 5, Scene 4, Beatrice told Benedick that Hero, Ursula, and Margaret were
deceived that Benedick loved Beatrice. "Why then, my cousin,
Margaret, and Ursula Are much deceived, for they did swear
you did."
In Act 2, Scene 3, Leonato, Don Pedro, and Claudio deceive Benedick into believing that Beatrice is
sick with love for Benedick, making Benedick fall in love with Beatrice. "DON PEDRO Come hither,
Leonato. What was it you told me of today, that your niece Beatrice was in love with Signor
Benedick? "
In Act 4, Scene 1, The Friar comes up with a way to deceive the men who slandered her and left her
for dead. Friar Francis' idea is to fake Hero's Death, making Claudio and Don Pedro feel remorse at
'killing' Hero. "FRIAR FRANCIS Pause awhile, And let my counsel sway you in this case. Your
daughter here the princes left for dead. Let her awhile be secretly kept in And publish it that she is
dead indeed. Maintain a mourning ostentation, And on your family’s old monument Hang mournful
epitaphs and do all rites That appertain unto a burial."
In Act 5, Scene 4, Benedick told Beatrice that Leonato, Claudio, and the Prince
were deceived that Beatrice loved Benedick. " BENEDICK Why
then, your uncle and the Prince and Claudio Have been
deceived. They swore you did. "
In Act 3, Scene 1, hero, Margaret, and Ursula, two of Hero's serving
women, deceive Beatrice into thinking that Benedick is dying with
love for Beatrice, causing Beatrice to fall in love with Benedick.
"URSULA But are you sure That Benedick loves Beatrice so entirely?"
