Hormones
Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) - Brain
Lutenising hormone (LH) - Brain
Oestrogen and Progesterone - Ovarys
Oestrogen is secreted from the pituitary gland
FSH causes the eggto rise - and more secretion of oestrogen
Oestrogen contributes to the secretion of LH
First 5 days = mensturation period
Day 6 - 14 = The lining of the uterus gets thicker. The egg is maturing. On day 14 the egg is released.
Day 15 to 28 = Egg can implant in the lining of the uterus. The lining of the uterus is maintained until next month.
Contraceptive pill = A pill containing sex hormones which is used to prevent conception.
Fertility drug = Allows couples who could not otherwise do so do so artificially.

Safe Drug: The drug is not toxic or or have unacceptable side affects for the patient.
A drug that slowed down the splitting of cells.
Used in the 1970's in Germany for pregnant women that had trouble sleeping.
Used nowadays as a cure for leprosy and bone cancer
IVF = In vitro fertilisation
Fertility drugs can be used to make multiple eggs mature at the same time.
Effective drug: A medicine that cures the disease it is targeting
Safe drug: You must be able to use the drug under normal conditions
Thalidomide used for development of unborn babies
Nerves
The nervous system enables us to react to our surroundings. It consists mainly of the brain, the spinal chord, nerve cells ("neurones" and receptors.
A reflex is a movement in response to a stimulus.
Astimulus is something that causes a reaction.
An injury is when you get hurt or harmed in any way
The nervous system is a network of nerves that flow around your body and allow you to respond to stimuli around you.
Effector - a part of the body that produces a response following a stimulus
Receptor - recieves the pain signal
Relay - passes the message
Sensory neurone -
Motor neurone - neurone that connects the muscle to the spine
The connection of two neurones is called a synapse
