Resumen del Recurso

LIMESTONE
  1. Limestone is mainly calcium carbonate(CaCO3)
    1. Thermally decomposes when heated to form calcium oxide(CaO) and CO2
      1. Calcium Oxide (CaO) reacts with water to form Calcium hydroxide-Ca(OH)2
        1. Calcium Hydroxide is an alkali
          1. can be used to neutralise acidic soils so can powdered limestone but the limestone works allot slower.
            1. Calcium Hydroxide and water solution (limewater) tests for CO2 by turning cloudy if CO2 present due to calcium carbonate(CaCO3) forming.
        2. CaCO3 also reacts with acid to make a calcium salt, CO2 and H2O
          1. Type of salt would depend on acid E.G hydrochloric acid = a chloride salt
        3. Powdered limestone can be heated in a kiln with powdered clay to make cement
          1. Cement mixed with sand and water forms mortar, used to stick bricks together.
            1. Cement mixed with sand and aggregate(water & gravel) makes concrete
