Chapter 7 the atmosphere
  1. section 1: the air around you
    1. The atmosphere protects us from dangerous things from space
      1. air quality is poor
        1. improving air quality is important
          1. the atmosphere is made of many different gasses
          2. section 2 : air pressure
            1. properties of air are density and pressure
              1. measuring air pressure tools

                Nota:

                • mercury barometers, aneroid  barometer,
                1. altitude affects air pressure and density
                2. layers of the atmosphere

                  Nota:

                  • thermosphere, troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere
                  1. Energy in the atmosphere
                    1. energy from the sun

                      Nota:

                      • visible light, non-visible radiation
                      1. energy in the atmosphere

                        Nota:

                        • Some sunlight is absorbed or reflected by the atmosphere.
                        1. Energy at earth surface

                          Nota:

                          • When earths surface is heated, it radiates most of the energy back into the atmosphere as infrared radiation
                        2. Heat transfer in the atmosphere
                          1. thermal energy and temperature

                            Nota:

                            • heat is measured with a thermometer in degrees of celcius or farenhight
                            1. how is heat transfered

                              Nota:

                              • radiation conduction convection heating the troposphere
                            2. Winds
                              1. what is wind

                                Nota:

                                • winds are caused by differences in the air pressure.
                                • wind is measured by a anemometer
                                • wind chill factor makes you colder than the actual temprature
                                1. local wind

                                  Nota:

                                  • sea breeze, land breeze
                                  1. global winds

                                    Nota:
