Education

2. Students refused to sit tests --> showed inequalities between them
3. Students sent to farms + factories to learn from peasants
4. University places given to communists
Countryside
1. Private plots of land taken away from peasants
2. Country markets, shops+restaurants closed
3. But more primary schools created
Government
1. Opponents killed/sent into exile
2. Deng XiaoPing, general secretary of CCP = removed from post
3. Revolutionary committees, run by PLA, governed country
Mao
1. Strong position
2. Most moderates expelled from party
3. Mao's supporters occupied top spots
