    1. Some subcultures unite young people with similar economic status.
      1. J Clarke (1976) stated that 'Skinhead' cultures join to release their frustration at being poor and unemployed.
      2. Ethnicity
        1. Ethnicity clearly links some groups of young people. Music, style and dance link people of similar ethnicities
        2. Gender
          1. In the past, subcultures used to be gender specific.
            1. McRobbie and Garber (1976) referred to this as the bedroom culture
              1. They identified a strong culture among youth teenage girls. This culture was based around romance, fashion and the private domestic space of the girls' bedrooms. This has become known as the 'bedroom culture
