  1. Attention
    1. Focussing on something without becoming distracted by other aspects of the environment.
      1. Assists in learning new material
        1. Can be developed through a rewards system
          1. Generally the lower the age, the lower the attention span.
          2. Refers to the increased intricacy of the brain and the processes in the brain.
            1. Thought patterns
              1. Abstract
                1. Looking at the deeper meaning of an object and thinking about concepts and ideas.
                  1. E.g. Looking at a pen and seeing it as a learning tool that enables you to communicate and learn.
                2. Concrete
                  1. Looking and accepting only the physicality of an object.
                    1. E.g. Looking at a pen and just seeing it as a general piece of stationary.
                3. Problem solving
                  1. This process requires an individual to reach an unknown destination.
                    1. Use methods such as trial and error to solve
                      1. Eg. fixing a computer, fitting a number of commitments into a small timeframe
                      2. Knowledge
                        1. Gains complexity as people develop intellectually
                          1. The longer a person has been intellectually developing, the more chances they have to expand their knowledge.
                          2. Language
                            1. The knowledge of ways language can be used continually develops over time.
                            2. Memory
                              1. Retaining and recalling information.
                                1. Ability changes over the lifespan
                                  1. Can decline in the latter parts of adulthood
                                2. Creativity and imagination
                                  1. Thinking in new ways
                                    1. Developed through exposure to different experiences.
                                      1. E.g. books, movies, music and other people.
