I taught writing like my mother taught me. Read, read, read and give details, details, details.
I taught the writing like I was taught because that is your model. As time went by, I started talking about my thought process to my students. I helped make my learning visible.
I experienced good writing from my mother. I did have some good teachers who were writers but they were in the high school and college setting.
I think we all teach what we know and then hope students "get the rest"; however, teaching things that make you uncomfortable is where the true learning begins!
