Velocity/Acceleration and Distance Time Graphs
  1. Speed and Velocity are both how fast your going
    1. Both measured in m/s (mph)
      1. Speed is how fast you are going with no regard to direction
        1. speed = distance / time
        2. Velocity must also have the direction specified (e.g. 30mph north)
        3. Distance Time Graph
          1. The gradient tells you how fast your object is travelling. This is because the gradient is the change in the distance divided by the change in time
            1. Important notes
              1. Gradient = Speed
                1. Gradient = Change in distance / change in time
                2. Flat sections are where its stationary or stopped
                  1. Straight uphill or downhill sections mean it is travelling at a steady speed
                    1. The steeper the graph the faster its going
                      1. Downhill sections mean its going back toward its starting point
                        1. Curves represent acceleration or deceleration
                          1. A steepening curve means its speeding up (increasing gradient)
                            1. A levelling off curve means its slowing down (decreasing gradient)
                            2. Calculating speed from a distance time graph
                              1. Speed = Gradient = vertical axis / horizontal axis
                            3. Acceleration is how quickly velocity is changing
                              1. This can be a change in speed or direction
                                1. Acceleration = Change in velocity / Time taken
                                  1. Formula Triangle
                                    1. Change in speed would be the change in velocity some times shown as (v-u)
                                      1. v= final velocity
                                        1. u=initial velocity
                                    2. Velocity Time graphs
                                      1. Important Notes
                                        1. Gradient = Acceleration
                                          1. Flat sections represent steady speed
                                            1. The steeper the graph the greater the acceleration or deceleration
                                              1. Uphill sections are acceleration
                                                1. Downhill sections are deceleration
                                                  1. The area under any section of the graph is equal to the distance travelled in that time interval
                                                    1. A curve means changing acceleration
                                                    2. Acceleration = Gradient = vertical change / horizontal change
                                                      1. Distance travelled in any time interval is equal to the area under the graph
