Resumen del Recurso

BIOLOGY
  1. SEED DISPERSAL
    1. Wind
      1. The flower has long anthers and styles so that the plant can catch any pollen floating on the wind, and release any of its own.
      2. Insect / mammal
        1. Burrs on animal fur, eats seed and then excretes it, insect crawls into flower and the pollen gets stuck to its body.
        2. Water
          1. The seed will float for hundreds of miles, usually coconuts.
        3. PREGNANCY
          1. The Umbilical Cord
            1. Attaches the foetus to the placenta.
              1. Carries any unwanted waste back out to the mother...
                1. ...And carries nutrients in
                2. The difference between an embryo and a foetus!
                  1. The embryo is the first ball of cells while the foetus is the little baby!
                3. DEFICIENCY DISEASES
                  1. Vitamin C = Scurvy
                    1. Scurvy causes bleeding gums, loss of teeth and then death.
                    2. Vitamin D = Rickets
                      1. Rickets causes your muscles and bones to become weak and soft.
                      2. Iron = Anaemia
                        1. When you dont have enough healthy red blood cell to carry oxygen around your body you get anaemia. This causes lack of energy and breath.
                        2. Protein = Kwashiorkor
                          1. Kwashiorkor causes flaky skin, pot belly, muscle loss
                        3. GAS EXCHANGE, RESPIRATION AND BREATHING
                          1. Gas Exchange is the process where oxygen is carried into the bloodstream from the lungs and where carbon dioxide is carried out of the bloodstream into the lungs.
                            1. Breathing is inhaling and exhaling
                              1. When you have asthma, your bronchioles become inflamed and they swell up, mucus also builds up.
                              2. Respiration is where the energy in food defuses from the bloodstream into the every cell in the body.
                                1. Oxygen and glucose go into the mitochondria and carbon dioxide and water comes out.
                              3. DIGESTION IN THE MOUTH
                                1. In your saliva you have enzymes called amylase which breaks down starch.
                                2. FOOD TESTS
                                  1. Starch = iodine It will go dark blue / black
                                    1. Fat = Ethanol It will go milky white
                                      1. Sugar = Benedicts solution heat up and it will go orangy-green
                                        1. Protein = Biuret solution It will go mauve
                                        2. Mitochondria are the organelles where respiration occurs
