The American Revolution step by step
  1. Before we begin, look for little "notes" at the top right corner
    1. After the French and Indian war
      1. The British taxed the Colonists

        Nota:

        • The government spent immense sums of money on troops and equipment in an attempt to subjugate Massachusetts. British merchants had lost huge sums of money on looted, spoiled, and destroyed goods shipped to the colonies. The revenue generated by the Townshend duties, in 1770, amounted to less than £21,000. On March 5, 1770, Parliament repealed the duties, except for the one on tea. That same day, the Boston massacre set a course that would lead the Royal Governor to evacuate the occupying army from Boston, and would soon bring the revolution to armed rebellion throughout the colonies. See also the Tea Act. -ushistory.org
        1. The Colonists complained about the Quartering act

          Nota:

          • Note: The quartering act is not a tax, but it still is part of the intolerable acts. -Mark
          1. Later Britain Repealed the Quartering act

            Nota:

            • To "repeal" means to do away with  a law.
            1. Next came the Sugar act

              Nota:

              • The sugar act was passed on 1764
              1. "Ok, we get it, we'll repeal it"
                1. The Stamp Act was passed

                  Nota:

                  • The stamp act in 1765 taxed all legal documents. In order for a document to be legal, you would have to go to a stamp collector and get your document legalifyed for a price
                  1. Sigh, also repealed.
                    1. Hello, Townsend acts!!!!

                      Nota:

                      • Yippy! Horray! Glass and many other things were now taxed.
                      1. Wut? Repealed? Didn't see that coming.
                        1. Tea Act of 1773
                          1. This time, the colonists were done.

                            Nota:

                            • The colonists got so mad, that they decided to go a different route. A few sons of liberty boarded British ships and dumped tea overboard.
    2. A combination of a few reasons started the American revolution
      1. One was the Intolerable acts
        1. And the other was no representation in Parliament

          Nota:

          • Parliament is the British version of the Congress
          1. Spark! The Americans started a few battles! Uh oh!!!
            1. The Americans were off to a bad start with the battle of Lexington.
              1. But got the hang of it at Concord

                Nota:

                • British soldiers realized that we could actually pack a punch, and retreated to Boston.
                1. After the battle of Saratoga...

                  Nota:

                  • Benjamin Franklin was able to convince France to join sides.
                  1. Or should I say after the embarrassing defeat for Great Britain
