Resumen del Recurso

Tissues
  1. Intercellular Junctions
    1. Tight Junctions
      1. close space between cells by fusing cell membranes

        Nota:

        • ex. cells that line the small intestine
      2. Gap Junctions
        1. Form tubular channels between cells that allow the exchange of substances

          Nota:

          • ex. Muscle cells of the heart and digestive tract
        2. Desmosomes
          1. Bind cells by forming "spot welds" between cell membranes

            Nota:

            • ex. cells of the outer skin layer
        3. Muscle
          1. Muscle tissue contracts, moving structures attached to it. Muscle cells are also called muscle fibers.
          2. Connective
            1. Connective tissue connect, supports, protects, provides frameworks, fills spaces, stores fat, produces blood cells, protects against infection, and helps repair damaged tissues.
            2. Nervous
              1. Found in the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves
              2. Epithelial
                1. Characteristics: Lack blood vessels, cells readily divide, cells are tightly packed together
