Bacterial Infections
Tetanus
Cause: Clostridium tetani
Transmission: Through open wound
Symptoms: Fever, pain, spasms of neck and jaws
Cure: Sedation, administration of muscle relaxing chemicals, antibiotics and antitoxins
Prevention: Vaccine
Typhoid
Cause: Salmonella enterica
Transmission: Contaminated water and food
Symptoms: Fever, headaches, constipation and diarrhoea
Cure: Antibiotics
Prevention: presence of hygienic conditions, vaccine
Cholera
Cause: Vibrio cholerae
Transmission: Contaminated water
Symptoms: Chronic diarrhoea, dehydration, loss of liquids and salts
Prevention: Vaccine and presence of hygiene
Cure: Oral rehydration, intravenous administration of fluids
Plague
Cause: Yersinia pestis
Transmission: Fleas
Symptoms: Fever, swelling of the lymphatic ganglions and skin
Cure: Antibiotics, Vaccine
Prevention: Keep away from infected rodents
Tuberculosis
Cause: Koch bacterium (Mycobacterium tuberculosis)
Transmission: Air and milk from infested cows
Symptoms: Prolonged coughing, fever, shivering, bloody expectoration, weight loss, sweating, tiredness, and glossy eyes
Cure: Resting, clean air, proper diet, besides medication.
Prevention: BCG (Bacille Calmette Guerin) decreases risk of infection, pasteurization of the milk, vaccine for children
Pneumonia
Cause: Aeromonas hydrophila, Streptococcus pneumoniae and other bacteria
Symptoms: Fever, shiver, sweating, cough with expectoration, muscle, head and thoracic pain, appetite loss, weakness
Transmission: Inhalation of infected air or via air-borne droplets from a cough or sneeze
Cure: Antibiotics, oxygen, liquids, physiotherapy and/or vaccine trimetropin sulfamethoxazole
Prevention: Flu shot, vaccination
