  1. Coles- if a person is poor they are more likely to commit crime
    1. Walmsley et al- 41% of prisoners from the lowest social classes they only make up 19% of the population
      1. Jacobson et al- complex backgrounds in the majority of 200 children/young people in custody
        1. 1/4 absent fathers
          1. 1/2 had to live in a deprived household
          2. Graham and Bowling - middle class children were just as likely to be involved in crime as working class children
            1. Police are more likely to give them a warning
              1. Different types of crime have different punishments
              2. Messerschmidt- working class and middle class males commit different types of crime to try to demonstrate their masculinity
                1. White Working Class Males; ABH,GBH,Robbery, Burglary, Drugs and Gang related crimes
