  1. His role is to contrast with Romeo (passionate, impulsive)
    1. Paris is rational and less impulsive as arranged marriage is more formal
    2. Portrayed as the perfect husband for Juliet by Nurse and Lady Capulet
      1. Act 3 scene 5, "gentleman of noble parentage"
      2. His role is to move the plot forward
        1. Does not develop
        2. Acts as the victim after Juliet's 'death'
          1. Could be a victim of society
          2. When he was killed, Paris was only trying to bring justice to Romeo
            1. Thinks Romeo is responsible for Juliet's grief induced death
            2. Romeo calls Paris "noble county Paris" and "good gentle youth"
              1. Could show Romeo's remorse for killing Paris and makes the audience sympathise with Paris
              2. He is respectful of Capulet and calls him father

                  1. Is a contrast to Romeo calling Juliet a saint
