              1. Chemical process
                1. Disinfected
                2. Tooth decay
                  1. Bacteria & food left on teeth
                    1. When you eat molecules are left on your teeth. This builds up with bacteria causing plaque to form
                      1. Bacteria breaks down sugars. This process is called acid, which then starts to corrode your teeth
                        1. Brushing your teeth prevents tooth decay
                          1. The enamel protects your tooth, it is made from minerals
                            1. The bacteria wears away the enamel of teeth
                            2. Fermentation
                              1. A process used to produce beer, wine, yogurt and cheese
                                1. Yeast fermentation formula Glucose - Carbon dioxide (gas) + Ethanol (alcohol) + (energy)
                                  1. Bacteria fermentation formula Sugar (glucose) - Lactic acid
                                    1. Microbes use a chemical process to produce energy called Respiration
                                      1. The formula for Respiration is Oxygen + Glucose - carbon dioxide + water + (energy)
                                        1. If microbes don't have enough oxygen they can't respire. They must use another process to produce the energy
                                          1. Fermentation is the process used in the absence of oxygen so microbes can produce the energy they need.
                                          2. Food Preservation
                                            1. Vacuum packed food stops bacteria growth because there is no oxygen
                                              1. Tinned/Canned food stops microbe growth because there is no oxygen
                                                1. Bottling/Sterilisation kills bacteria due to high temperatures
                                                  1. Fridges stop microbe growth because of low temperatures
                                                    1. Freezers stop microbe growth because it is too cold
                                                      1. Preserving food in sugar, vinegar and salt stop microbe growth because the conditions have changed
                                                      2. The use of Antibiotics to kill bacteria
                                                        1. Antiseptics clean cuts
                                                          1. Disinfectant kills the bacteria
                                                            1. Antibiotics help if you are ill
                                                              1. Antibiotics kill bacteria and wouldn't help if you had a viral infection
