Resumen del Recurso

Biology B1
  1. Vasodilation
    1. The widening of the blood vessels close to the skin's surface in order to increase heat loss by radiation.
    2. Vasoconstriction
      1. The narrowing of the blood vessels close to the skin's surface in order to reduce heat loss by radiation.
      2. Insulin controls blood sugar levels by converting excess glucose into glycogen (which is then stored in the liver).
        1. Depressant drugs
          1. This type of drug binds with receptors in synapses. Transmitter can no longer bind to receptors. The drug can also bind with neurotransmitter once released or break down the released neurotransmitter.
          2. Stimulant drugs
            1. Cause more neurotransmitter to diffuse across the synapse.
            2. Neurones
              1. Have an elongated axon to make connections from one part of the body to another.
                1. Insulating sheath to speed up the nerve impulse.
                  1. Dendrites, which are branched endings, to allow a single neurone to act on many muscle fibres.
                  2. Fats are made up of fatty acids and glycerol.
                    1. Healthy
                      1. Being free from infection.
                      2. Fit
                        1. Relates to how much physical activity you're capable of doing, and how quickly your body recovers afterwards.
                        2. Global warming
                          1. Sun's rays pass through the atmosphere. CO2 reduces/re-radiation passing back out to space. CO2 traps heat from Earth. Because CO2 reflects back the radiation.
                          2. A parasite is an organism that lives off other organisms causing them harm.
                            1. Animal cells lose the ability to differentiate. Plant cells retain the ability to differentiate throughout their lives. So basically, plants retain stem cells but animals do not.
                              1. Aerobic respiration: C6H12O6 + 6O2 --> 6CO2 + 6H2O
