JURIES
  1. Qualifications
    1. Aged between 18-70.
      1. Registered as a parliamentary or government elector.
        1. Lived in the UK for 5 years since age of 13.
        2. Disqualifications
          1. Imprisonment or detention for life
            1. Detention at her majesty's pleasure
              1. A term of imprisonment or detention for 5 years or more.
                1. Disqualified whilst on bail
                  1. Failing to declare any of this will result in fine of up to 5,000
                  2. Ineligibility
                    1. A person suffering a mental disorder (criminal justice act 2003)
                      1. Lacking capacity; foreign, disability
                      2. Excusals
                        1. Full timed armed forces.
                          1. Wedding
                            1. Holiday
                              1. Ignoring summons results in up to a £1,00 fine.
                              2. Selection
                                1. Done by a crown court offical
                                  1. When jurors arrive they will be shown a short film about their role.
                                    1. 15 potential jurors are chosen from the jury pool to go into the court room.
                                      1. 12 are chosen at 'random' in court by the clerk.
                                    2. Vetting.
                                      1. Both the prosecution and defence have the right to see the list of potential jurors and may decide if it needs to be 'vetted'
                                        1. Routine police checks to eliminate those disqualified R V Mason.
                                          1. Wider background check; rarely used
