Immunoassays
  1. Evaluate the role of immunoassays in animal health compared to other options available
    1. Competitve assays slower due to incubation period
      1. Radio labelled health risks
      2. How they work
        1. ELISA
          1. ENZYME linked immuosorbant assay
            1. Horseradish peroxidase (HRP)
              1. Conjulated to a labelled molecule producing a flurimetric labelled molecule
                1. More stable and less expensive than AP
                2. Alkaline phosphotase (AP)
                  1. ?Removal of phosphate group to be replaced with radioactive labelled phosphate? DNA sampelling?

                    1. ???Somthing to do with glucose???
                  3. Produce colour change in prescence of reagents, some emit light
                    1. Indirect ELISA
                      1. Solution applied to microtiter plate, and charged to join to plastic, followed by a neutral protein to fill in any gaps.
                        1. Primary antibody added to bind to antigen, plate washed with mild detergent
                          1. Secndary antibody with conjulated enzyme added to bind to original antibody
                            1. Enzyme specific substrate added, if reaction occurs between enzyme and substrate a colour change will be observed, stronger clour means greater amount of antigen.
                              1. Spectrometer can give quantitive value
                          2. Disadvantages
                            1. Test analyte will compete with other proteins to stick to microtiter plate
                        2. Sandwich ELISA
                          1. A known amount of antibody is applied to plate (capture antibody)
