JUSTIFICACIÓN
La creación de ambientes de aprendizaje en la escuela
Los nuevos hallazgos en la ciencia del aprendizaje generan preguntas importantes acerca del diseño de ambientes de aprendizaje, que sugieren repensar lo que se enseña, cómo se enseña y cómo se evalúa.
Las metas educativas de las escuelas han tenido grandes cambios durante el último siglo. Todos esperan mucho más de las escuelas hoy en día de lo que se esperaba hace 100 años. Un principio fundamental de la teoría moderna del aprendizaje es que distintos tipos de metas de aprendizaje requieren diferentes métodos de instrucción; nuevas metas para la educación requieren cambios en las oportunidades de aprender.
Exploramos el diseño de ambientes de aprendizaje desde cuatro perspectivas que parecen ser particularmente importantes dados los datos actuales acerca del aprendizaje humano, específicamente, nos referimos al grado en el cual los ambientes de aprendizaje se centran en quien aprende, en el conocimiento, en la evaluación o en la comunidad.
CARACTERÍSTICAS
*AMBIENTES CENTRADOS EN QUIEN APRENDE
Cuando usamos el término “centrado en quien aprende”, nos referimos a ambientes que ponen atención cuidadosa a conocimientos, habilidades, actitudes y creencias que los estudiantes traen al espacio escolar. Este término incluye prácticas de aprendizaje que han sido llamadas “culturalmente sensibles”, “culturalmente apropiadas”, “culturalmente compatibles” y “culturalmente relevantes”. El término también se adapta al concepto de “enseñanza diagnóstica”, tiene la finalidad de descubrir lo que piensan los estudiantes en relación con los problemas inmediatos que enfrenten, discutir sus errores conceptuales de manera sensible y crear situaciones de aprendizaje que les permitan reajustar sus ideas.
*AMBIENTES CENTRADOS EN EL CONOCIMIENTO
La capacidad de los expertos para pensar y resolver problemas no se debe nada más a una serie genérica de “habilidades del pensamiento” o a estrategias, requiere de conocimientos bien organizados que apoyen la planeación y el pensamiento estratégico. Los ambientes centrados en el conocimiento toman en serio la necesidad de ayudar a los estudiantes a convertirse en conocedores al aprender, de tal manera que comprendan y realicen la subsiguiente transferencia. El conocimiento actual sobre el aprendizaje y la transferencia y el desarrollo proporciona importantes guías para alcanzar estas metas. Los ambientes centrados en el conocimiento hacen una intersección con los ambientes centrados en quien aprende, cuando la enseñanza comienza con un interés por las concepciones iniciales de los estudiantes acerca de la materia.
*AMBIENTES CENTRADOS EN LA EVALUACIÓN
Los principios básicos de la evaluación son aquellos que proporcionan oportunidades de retroalimentación y de revisión, y aseguran que lo evaluado sea congruente con las metas de aprendizaje.
Es importante distinguir entre dos usos fundamentales de la evaluación.
El primero, la evaluación formativa involucra el uso de la evaluación (frecuentemente administrada en el contexto del salón) como fuente de retroalimentación para mejorar la enseñanza y el aprendizaje.
Evaluación formativa y retroalimentación.
Estudios sobre la especialización socialmente adaptada, el aprendizaje, la transferencia y el desarrollo temprano muestran que la retroalimentación es extremadamente importante.
Si ya está definida una meta de aprendizaje con entendimiento, entonces la evaluación y la retroalimentación se enfocan también a la comprensión y no sólo a la memorización de procedimientos y de hechos. La retroalimentación es más valiosa cuando los estudiantes tienen la oportunidad de usarla para revisar su pensamiento a medida que están trabajando en una unidad o en un proyecto.
La suma de oportunidades para la evaluación formativa incrementa el aprendizaje y la transferencia, y los estudiantes aprenden a identificar oportunidades para la revisión.
CONCLUSIÓN
Los propósitos para la escolarización han cambiado y ahora surgen nuevos propósitos que sugieren la necesidad de pensar de manera diferente aspectos: qué se enseña, cómo se enseña y de qué forma son evaluados los estudiantes.
Las cuatro perspectivas sobre el diseño de ambientes de aprendizaje –en qué grado están centradas en el estudiante, en el conocimiento, en la evaluación o en la comunidad– son importantes para su diseño.
Los ambientes de aprendizaje orientados al que aprende son consistentes con un sólido conjunto de evidencias que sugieren que los que aprenden usan su conocimiento actual para construir conocimiento nuevo, y lo que saben y creen en el momento afecta su manera de interpretar la nueva información. Algunas veces el conocimiento actual de quien aprende apoya el nuevo aprendizaje otras veces lo bloquea: la instrucción efectiva comienza con aquello que quienes aprenden llevan al ambiente de aprendizaje, esto incluye prácticas culturales y creencias, así como conocimientos de contenido académico.
